Arkansas Medicare
In 2005, Arkansas State and Public School Employee Benefits Division (EBD) and Health Advantage partnered in 2005 to offer the ARHealth plan to retirees with Medicare. All Medicare and non-Medicare Arkansas State and Public School Retirees are enrolled automatically in the ARHealth Plan upon retirement.Health Advantage is a subsidiary company of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield and has offered health insurance products to employees of Arkansas State and their dependents for more than 10 years.
While Arkansas used to have a discount program to help assist with the costs of prescription drugs called the Arkansas Rx Program, this program ceased operation in January 2006 and was replaced by Medicare Part D plans. Although the program no longer exists, it is still possible to find a Medicare insurance plan that can help you afford prescription drugs. Upcoming 2010 plans for Medicare Part D will include AR Blue Cross MediPak Rx Basic, Aetna Medicare Rx Essentials, CIGNA Medicare Rx Plan One, AARP MedicareRx Saver, Health Net Orange Option 1, and UnitedHealth Rx Basic. These are the official names of the plans. However, they may differ according to state, so be sure to ask a Medicare specialist about the names of available plans in your area.
Additionally, all Medicare insurance plans (including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Plan D, and Medicare Supplement Plans) could be changing according to coverage and cost for the year 2010.
