New Jersey Affordable Medicare Plans

If you live in New Jersey and reside in Atlantic County, Bergen County, Burlington County, Camden County, Cape Map County, Cumberland County, Essex County, Gloucester County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Ocean County, Passaic County, Salem County, Somerset County, Sussex County, Union County, or Warren County, MedicareSolutions.com has information about plans in your area. This includes cities such as Dover, Hamilton, Trenton, Camden, Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, Edison, and Woodbridge as well as other Jersey cities and towns.

Some of the carriers we represent in the state of New Jersey are: AARP/United Healthcare, Aetna, Anthem BCBS, Coventry, Empire BCBS, Health Net, Humana, Mutual of Omaha, and Secure Horizons. Some of these New Jersey Medicare health insurance plans include Aetna’s Golden Choice Plan (POS) and Golden Medicare Plan (HMO). You can also view specific Medicare insurance plans by carrier.

New Jersey’s Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (or PAAD) program is a state funded prescription program which helps income eligible New Jersey residents with the costs of prescription medication. Drugs purchased outside the state of New Jersey are not covered and neither are pharmaceutical products whose manufacturer has not signed a rebate agreement with the state of New Jersey. Individuals looking to obtain Medicare insurance and specifically Medicare Prescription Drug coverage often have questions about the relationship between Medicare Part D and PAAD.

PAAD benefits are available if you are a New Jersey resident; you are at least 65 years of age or at least 18 years of age and receive Social Security Disability benefits; and your annual income for 2008 is less than $23,092 if single or less than $28,313 if married.

If you are a PAAD participant, you will not have to pay the premium for your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan as long as you choose a basic Medicare prescription drug plan that is at or below the benchmark premium amount in New Jersey (for 2008, the benchmark premium equals $31.23). However, if you choose to enroll in a Medicare prescription that is above the annual Medicare Part D benchmark premium in New Jersey, you will be responsible for paying the entire monthly premium for that Medicare prescription drug plan.

Additionally, PAAD participants will not have to pay deductibles, co-insurance, or other out-of-pocket costs to use Medicare Part D; PAAD or the federal government pays these costs. All you pay as a participant is the $6 PAAD co-payment for each covered generic drug or the $7 co-payment for each covered brand name drug.

PAAD is a great program to support what can be potentially high costs of Medicare insurance. However, if you don’t have enough information about Medicare Part D plans, you could miss out on PAADs benefits.
