Medicare Providers - Humana

Humana began in 1961 as a nursing home; it later evolved from a chain of nursing homes into a hospital when founder David Jones and Wendell Cherry acquired a hospital in 1972. In 1980, Humana (formally know as “Extendicare”) became the worlds largest hospital in the world. Humana also played a role in the development of the artificial heart with Dr. Robert Jarvik and Dr. William DeVries. In 1984, Humana developed a new division to create and market health insurance products.

If you are 65, or will be turning 65 soon, it’s a great time to look into Medicare health insurance plans. Medicare health insurance is broken down into four parts. Each part offers a different amount and type of coverage. Part A is defined as hospital insurance and is offered by the government at no charge. Eligible candidates can receive coverage for medically necessary inpatient care, hospice care, and home healthcare. Many individuals seek additional healthcare since Part A is not a completely comprehensive health insurance plan.

Medicare candidates who are eligible for Part A can also choose to enroll in Part B for a monthly premium. Part B covers additional healthcare related costs like doctor visits or outpatient care. Part A and B will cover many of your health care and health insurance related needs but will leave gaps in your coverage. Part C of Medicare is offered to Medicare members by private health insurance providers. Part C is a comprehensive health insurance plan designed to cover that gaps left by Part A and Part B. Humana currently offers 3 different options within Part C. Humana’s “Gold Plus HMO”, “Choice PPO”, and “Gold Choice PFFS” each offer different types and amounts of health insurance coverage. They are designed to fit the needs of various Medicare eligible recipients.

The fourth and final part of Medicare is a prescription drug health plan which is available through private health insurers. Part D is not a mandatory health plan so you will pay an additional monthly premium while receiving additional prescription benefits. To receive the benefits of Part C and Part C, you must also be enrolled in Part A and Part B.
