New Jersey Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans
Some of the carriers we represent in the state of New Jersey are Family Life, Gerber, and United of Omaha. You can also view specific Medicare insurance policies organized by carrier.
New Jersey offers a state program called the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) which assists income-qualified New Jersey residents in covering the costs of their prescription drugs. If you are enrolled in the program and purchase your medications outside New Jersey, your medications will not be subsidized by PAAD. Your drugs must also be sold by a manufacturer who has agreed to provide rebates to the state of New Jersey. If you are seeking a Medicare prescription drug plan, you may have questions about PAAD and Part D of Medicare.
PAAD benefits are available if you are a New Jersey resident; you are at least 65 years of age or at least 18 years of age and receive Social Security Disability benefits; and your annual income for 2012 is less than $25,312 if single or less than $31,035 if married.
If you are a PAAD participant, you will not have to pay the premium for your Part D prescription drug plan as long as you choose a basic Medicare prescription drug plan that is at or below the benchmark premium amount in New Jersey (for 2012, the benchmark premium equals $36.00) or a basic Part D plan up to $5 above the benchmark amount that has no deductible. However, if you choose to enroll in a Medicare prescription that is above the annual Medicare Part D benchmark premium in New Jersey, you will be responsible for paying the entire monthly premium for that Medicare prescription drug plan.
These plans will cover medically necessary prescription medications under Medicare Part D. All you pay as a participant is the $5 PAAD co-payment for each covered generic drug or the $7 co-payment for each covered brand name drug, including premiums.
PAAD is a great program to support what can be potentially high costs of Medicare insurance. However, if you don’t have enough information about Medicare Part D plans, you could miss out on PAAD's benefits.
